Notley Green, Essex
Status: completed

A wonderful primary school with already great spaces and a lot of potential. During phase 1 (Winter '23/'24) Growing Green will be planting a native hedge and transforming a lawn into a meadow.
Update March '24: we started the hedge by planting about 50 small tree whips donated by the Woodland Trust in December '23. A large area was raked over, wildflower seeds have been sown and bulbs have been dug in. During a planting session in February, we added many more, larger hedge plants to the fences surrounding the school.

Action checklist
  • Native hedge
  • Wildflower meadow

What there was

A long fence separates the school from a public playground. We want to cover that fence using hedge plants and climbers. The lawn in front of that fence could become a beautiful wildflower meadow. A second fence by the car park will also be covered using plants.

What there is now

We added some life to these areas: lots of different types of hedge that the wildlife will benefit from. The children were such keen helpers and they will see their plants grow and thrive. We are looking forward to some pictures!
