Co-Designing a Nature-Friendly Garden for Holly Lodge

The form below is your chance to share what you’d most like to see here, whether that’s from the ideas list or something completely new. We’ll aim for a design that respects as many views as possible while creating a garden that’s practical, biodiverse, and beneficial for everyone.

What’s already growing?

A new orchard

In one of the previously overgrown rose beds, with 9 varieties of apples, plus gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants and more.

A dead hedge

The dead hedge provides a safe habitat for insects and small animals looking for shelter.

Pollinator-friendly perennials

Perennials such as verbena bonariensis were planted throughout the orchard to support bees and butterflies

A grassland and flower meadow

We are letting areas of grass grow taller to encourage wildflowers. We’ve already seen a real increase in butterflies and insects this summer

A native hedge

Planted along the metal fence using a mix of species. It’s still young, but in time it will offer shelter and food for wildlife, including hedgehogs
